Merry Christmas... :-(

.
.

I wish you a wonderful, peaceful Christmas.
May all your wishes come true.
And may all your family members love and respect you with all your "quirks" and "imperfections".

For me it's the most sad Christmas of my life.
I'm vegan since May and it's like a family tragedy.
My parents don't understand it, don't want it, don't accept it, don't tolerate it...

Tons of carp and sauerkraut with bacon on Christmas Eve.
Beef rolls and fried red cabbage with bacon and butter-sauce on Christmas Day.
Cheese cake for dessert.
To eat masses of animal protein is a Christmas tradition.
I don't know what to do.
I feel sick.
My stomach aches when I'm thinking of what will happen when I don't eat...
But I'll surely be ill when I do.
I'm sad and in despair.

It's the Christmas decoration in my kitchen.
I hope you like it.

  1. Oh darling, what a terrible situation!
I can totally understand you. I was a vegetarian before and was aware of the ignorence many people have towards vegetarians, but for me, luckily, there are so many nice vegan Christmas meals in the Netherlands and my parents accepted it.

This must be very hard for you. Maybe you can buy your own Christmas meals? Salads perhaps? With fruit or vegetables?

However, I really hope that above all your Christmas will be great Joe! And your Christmas decoration is beautiful!

  2. Try not to be sad. Stay true to yourself and be proud of that. Hopefully your parents will see the strong and beautiful daughter that knows her own mind and respect you for who you are.
I Wish you a Happy Christmas and New Year and all the best.

  5. A wonderful Christmas picture. It would make a fine card. But much sympathy from a carnivore. I guess it's a matter of choice and living by it.

  6. Dear Joe, A wonderful Christmas to you too! Stick to your guns (even though I am a carnivore) I am sure that no matter what you eat the important thing is that you will be with family!

  7. I love this photo.
    Have a great Christmas, Joe.
    WITH your son and family.
    WITHOUT the traditional animal protein.
    (Be strong. Ha.)

  8. I love your decorations.. btw u aren't alone.. On Thanksgiving I made a turkey breast and two legs.. my girls and I just couldn't have the stomach for it... Even the side dishes weren't appealing... No more turkey.. For xmas we are having a bunch of cool snacks... and of course some wine to go along w/it!. Don't be sad, stand your ground and eat what YOU want. :-)

  9. Merry Christmas... I never heard of food dividing a family... My family thinks I'm a little strange as well... but I am not a vegetarian... I will probably spend Christmas alone eating Chinese food or tacos... but still alone...

  12. Joe, that's so sad, I'm so sorry for you!
It's horrible when our parents don't understand and support us, but you don't have to eat meat if you don't want to. Try to pretend that you are eating, I don't know... I just want to help you!
    Anyway, I wish you a Merry Xmas and a better 2012! =(
